International Students

Upland has enjoyed a successful and robust international program since 1978.

In that year, Dr. John M. Cleveland took his ice hockey team to Turku, Finland, where he met Finnish hockey legend, Jusso Wahlsten. Mr. Wahlsten and Dr. Cleveland shared similar ideologies concerning the lifelong connections to be made for young men and women through international exchange, education and sport. In 1979, Mika Holmberg spent the year as a 9th grader at Upland, and 40-year tradition was born.

Since 1979, Upland has hosted over 100 international students from the following countries:

Host Family Program

Upland international students stay with host families for the duration of the school year. Host families volunteer through the Admissions Office and are thoroughly vetted for fit before being selected. International students become an extension of their family during their time at Upland and enjoy such luxuries as family vacations, local day trips, holidays and much more.

Applying to Upland Country Day School

International Placements at Upland are highly competitive. We recommend that students have one or more of the following test scores before applying: Jr. TOEFL, TOEFL, ISEE, SSAT.
